A law firm is seeking an Environmental Litigation Associate Attorney to join its team in Pittsburgh, PA. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience and exposure to both state and federal environmental laws, with particular emphasis on environmental compliance, enforcement, litigation, and transactions. This role requires strong research, writing, and analytical skills, along with the ability to represent clients in cases involving environmental remediation under CERCLA and other applicable regulations. Candidates must be self-driven, team-oriented, and have exceptional academic and professional credentials. Admission to practice law in Pennsylvania is required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Environmental Litigation:
    Represent clients in environmental litigation cases, including enforcement actions and disputes under federal and state environmental laws and regulations.
  • Compliance Counsel:
    Provide clients with expert legal advice on environmental compliance matters, including navigating regulatory frameworks and implementing best practices to avoid violations.
  • Transactional Environmental Support:
    Assist clients with the environmental aspects of transactions, including conducting due diligence and advising on risk management related to regulatory compliance and potential environmental liabilities.
  • Remediation Representation:
    Manage the representation of clients dealing with environmental sites requiring remedial actions under federal and state laws, with a strong focus on CERCLA matters.
  • Legal Research and Writing:
    Conduct comprehensive legal research and prepare well-structured legal memoranda, briefs, pleadings, and other legal documents.
  • Client Advisory:
    Analyze complex federal and state environmental statutory and regulatory requirements, offering tailored legal solutions to a diverse range of client issues.
  • Collaboration:
    Work effectively with a team of attorneys and support staff to provide high-quality legal representation, contribute to case strategy, and meet client objectives.
  • Client Communication:
    Maintain proactive communication with clients, updating them on case progress, legal developments, and strategic advice for managing environmental risks.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in environmental law, with a focus on litigation, compliance, transactions, and enforcement.
  • Licensure:
    • Must be admitted to practice law in Pennsylvania or be eligible for admission.
  • Expertise:
    • Strong knowledge of federal and state environmental statutes, including CERCLA, RCRA, Clean Air Act, and Clean Water Act.
    • Experience managing environmental cases, particularly those involving remediation under CERCLA.
  • Skills:
    • Excellent legal research and writing skills, with the ability to craft persuasive legal arguments and analyze complex regulatory frameworks.
    • Strong analytical skills to evaluate the applicability of environmental laws and regulations to client-specific situations.
  • Attributes:
    • Self-motivated, team-oriented, and capable of working independently.
    • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive client relationships.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (.):
    A . degree from an accredited law school is required.

Certifications:

  • Pennsylvania Bar Admission:
    Must be admitted to the Pennsylvania Bar or have the ability to obtain admission.
