The organization is seeking a Paralegal Aide to join their team in the Bronx, NY. This is a full-time position with a salary range of $41, - $55,. The selected candidate will be responsible for providing support to the agency's attorneys in their child abuse and neglect cases and other family court matters.
Key Responsibilities:
- Preparing and processing legal documents such as subpoenas, summonses, motions, affidavits, and legal notices
- Conducting legal research and retrieving court documents and records
- Responding to discovery requests and following up with service providers
- Assisting with trial preparation and filing motions with court clerks
- Liaising with various agencies to gather and share relevant information
- Redacting case records and retrieving records from all five boroughs
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or 60 semester credits from an accredited college or university
- Two years of full-time experience in paralegal (legal assistant) services or a combination of education and experience
- Familiarity with the American Legal System
- Paralegal Certification or undergraduate credits may be substituted for experience
- Experience in legal secretarial work is not acceptable
Additional Information:
- Candidates must take and pass an Open Competitive exam for the civil service title listed above to avoid being "bumped" out of their position when the Eligible List is established
- Candidates with child-caring responsibilities must disclose if they have been the subject of a child abuse and maltreatment report
- This position is open to qualified individuals with disabilities under the 55-a Program
- The City of New York offers federal loan forgiveness programs and state repayment assistance programs for eligible employees
- New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment
