Job Overview: A leading law firm in Los Angeles, California, is seeking an experienced Litigation Attorney to join its Personal Injury department. The Litigation Attorney will handle all aspects of litigation, including case evaluation, medical management, depositions, and trial preparation. Location:
Duties:
- Manage a caseload of approximately 60 litigation files with support from assigned staff
- Oversee case management from pre-litigation through trial, including investigations and legal research
- Draft and file legal documents, including complaints, pleadings, and motions
- Propound and respond to discovery, and draft meet and confer letters regarding discovery issues
- Take and defend depositions, prepare clients for depositions and hearings
- Develop and execute litigation strategies, evaluate cases for early resolution, and identify key issues
- Retain and prepare expert witnesses, including medical and legal experts, for depositions and trial
- Conduct mediation, attend court appearances, and represent clients in trial
- Perform file reviews and collaborate with team members to ensure progress and case strategy
- Supervise support staff, including litigation secretaries and paralegals
- Participate in regular file reviews with managing attorneys and provide guidance to associate attorneys
- Oversee medical management of personal injury cases, reviewing reports and recommendations from treating providers
- Investigate cases thoroughly, including site visits, witness interviews, and medical consultations
Requirements:
- Juris Doctor (.) degree from an accredited law school
- Active California State Bar membership
- Minimum of 7 years’ experience in a Personal Injury law firm
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with clients and colleagues
- Familiarity with Workers' Compensation terminology and related cases
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Bilingual in English and Spanish is strongly preferred
Education:
- Juris Doctor (.) from an accredited law school
Certifications:
- Licensed to practice law in California
Skills:
- Expertise in litigation and case management, including trial preparation
- Strong knowledge of medical experts, mediators, judges, and arbitrators
- Ability to evaluate cases and negotiate settlements or medical liens
- Proficiency in legal research tools, including LEXIS-NEXIS and Westlaw
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to manage complex cases and handle high-value matters
