Job Overview:
A distinguished law firm is seeking a Partner level attorney specializing in health and welfare plans to join its Employee Benefits & Executive Compensation Practice group. The successful candidate can be based in one of the firm’s offices in Cleveland, Columbus, Cincinnati, Atlanta, or Washington, ., with remote candidates considered on a case-by-case basis. This role requires extensive experience providing legal advice on various health and welfare benefit plans, compliance with key regulations such as the Affordable Care Act, COBRA, and HIPAA, as well as the drafting and negotiation of service provider agreements. The attorney will play a pivotal role in advising employers on compliance and litigation issues surrounding health and welfare plans.

Duties:

  • Advise businesses on all aspects of health and welfare benefit plans, including wrap plans, cafeteria plans, and flexible benefits arrangements
  • Counsel clients on compliance with Affordable Care Act (ACA), COBRA, HIPAA, Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act, and other regulatory requirements
  • Draft and negotiate service provider agreements
  • Provide guidance on TiC (Transparency in Coverage) and CAA 21 (Consolidated Appropriations Act) compliance
  • Resolve legal issues related to the administration and management of health and welfare plans
  • Offer proactive advice to employers on compliance, litigation, and regulatory issues affecting health and welfare plans

Requirements:

  • Significant experience providing legal counsel on health and welfare employee benefits
  • Expertise in ACA, COBRA, HIPAA, and related regulations
  • Proven ability to draft and negotiate service provider agreements
  • Experience advising employers on compliance and litigation issues related to employee benefit plans
  • Strong client advisory and relationship management skills

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school

Certifications:

  • Licensed to practice law in at least one . jurisdiction

Skills:

  • In-depth knowledge of employee benefits and executive compensation regulations
  • Excellent drafting, negotiation, and communication skills
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities
  • Ability to manage complex client relationships and legal matters
