A law firm in Milwaukee, WI is seeking a highly skilled IP Biotechnology Patent Agent to join its prestigious national Intellectual Property Department's Chemical, Biotechnology, and Pharmaceutical Practice Group. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in drafting and prosecuting both domestic and international patent applications in biotechnology or related fields, and will be adept at preparing patent opinions.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Draft and prosecute domestic and international patent applications in the biotechnology field.
  • Prepare and deliver comprehensive patent opinions related to biotechnology or similar technology.
  • Conduct thorough prior art searches and analyze patentability.
  • Collaborate with inventors and legal teams to gather necessary technical information.
  • Provide strategic advice on patent portfolio management and IP-related matters.
  • Assist in managing patent litigation and enforcement actions.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of biotechnology advancements and patent law changes.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, stakeholders, and colleagues on complex patent issues.

Requirements:

  • PhD in Biological Sciences (., Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics) or a related field.
  • USPTO registration number.
  • At least 3 years of patent counseling experience, including preparation and prosecution of patents.
  • Proven experience in drafting and prosecuting patent applications in the biotechnology sector.
  • Strong legal writing and research skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle complex patent matters and provide strategic IP advice.
  • Top academic credentials and previous law firm experience preferred.
