Job Overview

A law firm is seeking a highly skilled and experienced R&D Tax Credit Attorney to join their team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing and supervising the operations of the R&D Tax Credit group, including research, data analysis, client intake, project management, and tax return review. This role requires a command of Excel and Alteryx, excellent client relationship management, and in-depth knowledge of R&D tax credit laws and practices.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage and supervise the operations of the R&D Tax Credit group, including:
    • Research and data analysis
    • Client intake and project management
    • Tax return review (including client tax returns, GL data, and other financial and accounting inputs)
    • Financial reports
    • Client interfacing
  • Manage R&D tax credit studies and related activities, including:
    • Client interviews
    • Analyzing client data
    • Developing client and industry-specific tools and templates
    • Preparing technical reports
  • Assist with the delivery of engagements, including research and writing on technical and compliance issues
  • Manage and implement multiple projects simultaneously, including:
    • Client consultations
    • Data gathering and analysis
    • Coordination of Specialty Tax & Incentives personnel and client resources (Tax, Engineering, IT, HR)
  • Provide R&D tax credit services to clients, including:
    • Tax credit calculations
    • Refund claim preparations
    • IRS audit defense and related advisory services
  • Stay updated with current R&D tax credit industry practices and changes in tax law, IRS administrative procedures, and case law development
  • Develop and maintain excellent client relationships
  • Provide R&D tax credit legal, procedural, and computational advice to clients

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor Degree
  • Undergraduate or graduate degree in Accounting, Finance, Engineering, or a related field preferred
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification or law license preferred
  • 5+ years (10+ years preferred) of prior working experience with R&D tax credits at an accounting firm, corporation, or law firm
  • Knowledge of Internal Revenue Code §§ 41 and 174, corresponding Treasury Regulations, and relevant judicial and administrative authority
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and preferably some Alteryx (or similar program) experience
  • Knowledge and experience with statistical sampling preferred
