Job Overview:

A well-established law firm is seeking an Associate Attorney to join the North Carolina team within its Creditors' Rights practice. This remote position will involve collaborating with other attorneys and staff to provide exceptional legal services to clients in the areas of debt collection, consumer protection, and creditors’ rights. Frequent travel for court appearances in North Carolina will be required. The ideal candidate will have civil litigation experience and a strong desire to contribute to a dynamic and professional team.

Location:

  • Norfolk, VA

Duties:

  • Represent clients in debt collection and creditors' rights cases, including courtroom appearances in North Carolina
  • Handle a wide range of legal tasks related to consumer protection and legal debt collection
  • Engage in motion practice and trial preparation
  • Manage and organize case files and documentation
  • Develop and maintain positive bench-bar relations
  • Communicate effectively with clients, colleagues, and opposing counsel
  • Work collaboratively with other attorneys within the Creditors' Rights department
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable state and federal regulations in debt collection

Requirements:

  • Admitted and in good standing to practice law in North Carolina
  • Civil litigation experience, with a focus on creditors' rights and debt collection preferred
  • Courtroom experience, including motion practice and trial, is preferred
  • Proficient in using legal technology and case management software
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to manage a high caseload and meet deadlines
  • Virginia and/or Maryland licensure is a plus
  • Recent law school graduates who have passed the North Carolina bar are welcome to apply

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school

Certifications:

  • Licensed to practice law in North Carolina (in good standing)

Skills:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational abilities
  • Proficient in legal technology and case management tools
  • Knowledge of debt collection laws and consumer protection regulations preferred
  • Courtroom experience (motion practice and trial) preferred
  • Ability to multitask and manage a diverse caseload effectively
  • Collaborative team player with a strong work ethic
