Job Summary: As an Associate Attorney at Blitt and Gaines, ., you will have the opportunity to gain valuable courtroom experience by regularly representing our firm in court. You will also be responsible for reviewing new claims and pleadings, managing a contested litigation queue, and gaining extensive knowledge of court procedures, litigation processes, and client and firm policies and procedures. This position does not have any billable hour requirements. Key Responsibilities: - Appear in court a minimum of 3 days per week on behalf of the firm - Review new claims to ensure compliance - Review and sign off on pleadings for filing with the courts - Occasionally draft various motions and responses to contested matters - Argue motions and conduct trials and arbitrations - Manage communication with opposing counsel - Prepare and respond to discovery requests or oversee counterclaims - Work remotely from home Education and Experience: - Juris Doctorate degree and admission to the Kansas and Missouri Bar (additional licenses in other states where BG operates is a plus) - Both experienced and newly licensed attorneys are welcome to apply Computer Skills: - Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel - Experience with Collection Master or equivalent case file management system preferred Interpersonal Skills: - Excellent verbal and written communication skills - Ability to work well with a diverse group of individuals including staff, judges, opposing counsel, and court clerks - Tact, discretion, and courtesy when dealing with court officials, opposing counsel, and in-house attorneys Accountability: - Ability to work independently and make responsible decisions - Strong time management skills and ability to meet deadlines - Attention to detail and accuracy in record keeping Benefits: Blitt and Gaines, . offers a comprehensive benefits package including PTO, paid holidays, medical benefits, competitive salary, and 401k and profit sharing plans.
