A law firm in Chicago, IL, is seeking a Privacy and Cybersecurity Associate Attorney with 3-5 years of practical experience in data privacy counseling. The role requires leading projects, interfacing directly with clients, and developing comprehensive compliance programs to address privacy and cybersecurity challenges.

Duties:

  • Lead and manage privacy and cybersecurity projects, maintaining direct communication with clients and ensuring timely delivery of services.
  • Conduct compliance gap assessments to identify and address vulnerabilities in clients' privacy and security practices.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive compliance programs, including drafting privacy policies, business-facing guidance, data subject request (DSR) procedures, incident response plans, and tabletop exercises.
  • Create and review contracting templates and playbooks related to data sale/sharing, targeted advertising, and other privacy concerns.
  • Assist clients in determining priorities and risks associated with privacy and cybersecurity and guide the implementation of effective compliance programs.
  • Provide practical advice on state privacy laws (., CCPA, WA MHMD) and ensure adherence to these regulations.
  • Offer expertise in adtech and online tracking technologies, including compliance with TCPA, CANSPAM, and DAA/NAI/IAB self-regulatory rules.
  • Advise clients within the financial and health/life sciences sectors, including compliance with GLBA, CalFIPA, FCRA, insurance privacy laws, FTC/CFPB rules, HIPAA, and state health privacy regulations.

Requirements:

  • 3-5 years of practical experience in data privacy counseling.
  • Proven experience in providing advice and implementing state privacy laws, such as CCPA and WA MHMD.
  • Strongly preferred experience with adtech, cookies, online trackers, and related regulations (., TCPA, CANSPAM).
  • Preferred experience in the financial and health/life sciences sectors, including familiarity with GLBA, CalFIPA, FCRA, FTC/CFPB rules, HIPAA, and state health privacy laws.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Admission to practice in the jurisdiction (Illinois).
  • Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP-US, CIPT, CIPM) preferred but not mandatory.

Skills:

  • Excellent organizational skills with a strong attention to detail.
  • Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Self-starter with the ability to manage competing priorities and work effectively under pressure.
  • Demonstrated ability to frame advice and analysis practically based on risk.
  • Proven track record of managing complex matters or significant segments of such matters independently.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a congenial team environment.
  • Candidates with experience in large law firms are preferred; boutique specialists may be considered.
