Job Overview: A law firm specializing in intellectual property law is seeking an experienced Intellectual Property Associate Attorney to join their team in Chicago, IL. The ideal candidate will have at least 3 years of relevant experience, with a strong background in mechanical engineering, complemented by exposure to electrical engineering and material science.

Duties:

  • Conduct patentability and freedom-to-operate searches and analyses.
  • Draft and prosecute patent applications, particularly in mechanical engineering, such as hand tools, power tools, battery technology, and electronics.
  • Manage patent portfolios and advise clients on patent strategy and enforcement.
  • Conduct intellectual property due diligence for corporate transactions.
  • Assist in intellectual property litigation matters, including infringement analysis and drafting pleadings.

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor (.) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to the state bar in Illinois (preferably) or eligibility for admission via reciprocity.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience practicing intellectual property law, focusing on patent prosecution and counseling.
  • Technical background or significant experience in mechanical engineering; exposure to electrical engineering and material science is a plus.

Certifications:

  • Registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
