Organization: Lone Star Legal Aid (LSLA) Position: Contract Staff Attorney - Medical Legal Partnership Experience: Prior legal services or public interest experience preferred Location: Houston, Texas Salary: Not specified, but includes medical benefits and paid leave Job Description: - Lone Star Legal Aid (LSLA) is seeking a Contract Staff Attorney for its Medical Legal Partnership project in Houston, Texas. - The position is for a one-year contract and is funded by the Legal Aid Children's Health & Security Grant. - The Staff Attorney will be responsible for representing clients in court, interpreting laws and regulations, and working with the community to further the mission of LSLA. - The successful applicant may also supervise and coordinate activities of subordinate legal, clerical, volunteer, or student workers. - Bilingual (Spanish & English) speaking/writing skills are preferred. - The ideal candidate will have a graduate degree from an accredited Law School and be licensed to practice in Texas or qualify for reciprocity. - Prior legal services or public interest experience is preferred. - Strong legal writing and oral communication skills are required. - The candidate should also have a demonstrated client service orientation, and be skilled in interviewing, assessment, problem solving, and negotiation. - The ability to work under pressure and make decisions quickly is essential. - The candidate should also have a strong ability to aggressively pursue the rights of the client community. - The ideal candidate will be energetic, motivated, and a self-starter. - Reliable transportation is required as the position will require travel throughout all Texas counties served by the Houston Branch Office. - LSLA is an Equal Employment Opportunity Employer and does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, national or ethnic origin, age, disability, or veteran status.
