Job Overview: A law firm seeks an experienced Labor and Employment Attorney to join its New York office. The ideal candidate will have 7+ years of experience and will oversee client files with minimal supervision, providing practical legal advice, engaging in litigation, and representing clients in a variety of labor and employment matters. This role offers a hybrid work model, with flexibility for remote work. The successful attorney will collaborate with partners and engage in high-level employment law matters, including discrimination claims, wage and hour violations, trade secret misappropriation, and more.

Duties:

  • Manage and litigate labor and employment law cases, including claims for discrimination, retaliation, wage and hour violations, and trade secret misappropriation.
  • Provide comprehensive legal counsel to business clients on a wide array of employment-related matters.
  • Advise employers on union issues, employee discipline, terminations, policy development, and implementation.
  • Oversee employment agreements, restrictive covenants, internal investigations, and leave of absence management.
  • Conduct legal research, draft pleadings, motions, and legal documents.
  • Represent clients in court hearings and depositions, and manage client relationships.
  • Collaborate with senior attorneys and partners to develop legal strategies for complex labor and employment cases.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in labor and employment law.
  • Strong background in employment litigation, including experience with discrimination, retaliation, trade secret issues, and wage and hour law.
  • Proven experience advising employers on a range of employment issues, including union matters and workplace policies.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage cases independently, offering practical legal solutions.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills when interacting with clients, court personnel, and opposing counsel.
  • Candidates with experience in insurance defense or Labor Law § 240/241 will not be considered.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (.) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Admission to the New York State Bar and in good standing.

Skills:

  • Strong litigation and negotiation skills in labor and employment law.
  • Ability to work autonomously and manage complex caseloads with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent legal research and writing skills.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills to manage client relations and courtroom proceedings.
  • Ability to offer practical solutions and adapt legal strategies to meet client needs.

  • New York, NY (Hybrid position with in-office and remote work flexibility).
