A law firm in Los Angeles, CA, is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Labor and Employment Attorney with 8-12 years of specialized experience to join their team. The ideal candidate will have in-depth knowledge of California's state employment law, a strong background in counseling employers, and substantial trial experience. Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide expert legal counsel to employers and management on various employment matters.
  • Draft and develop comprehensive employee manuals, policies, and procedures.
  • Defend employers in complex employment claims, including state and federal employment discrimination, harassment, retaliation, failure to accommodate, wrongful termination, and wage and hour violations.
  • Conduct thorough legal research, write detailed memos, and draft pleadings.
  • Handle all aspects of trial preparation, including discovery, depositions, hearings, and motion practice.
  • Represent clients before administrative agencies and serve as first or second chair in trials.
  • Engage in client counseling, providing strategic advice and developing defense strategies.
  • Manage client relationships effectively, demonstrating strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Contribute to business development efforts and actively seek new opportunities.
  • Maintain a collaborative and client-focused approach to all legal matters.

Requirements

  • 8-12 years of experience in labor and employment law.
  • Specialized knowledge of California state employment law.
  • Proven experience counseling employers and developing written policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrated success in defending against complex employment claims.
  • Strong trial experience, including discovery, depositions, hearings, and motion practice.
  • Excellent research, writing, and analytical skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a focus on client service.
  • Proven ability to manage both upwards and downwards effectively.
  • A collaborative, motivated approach with a strong interest in business development.
  • Portable business is welcome.

Education and Certifications

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to the California Bar.
