Contact Us Privacy Accessibility Organization : Maryland Office of the Public Defender Job Title : Contractual Parent Attorney Experience : None Required Salary : $84, - $135, Employment Type : Full-Time Location : Baltimore City and Baltimore County H1: Contractual Parent Attorney for Preventive Legal Advocacy Project H2: Join MOPD's Parental Defense Division H2: Grant-Funded Position with Possibility of Extension H2: Essential Team Member for Better Together Early Family Advocacy Program - Seeking a dedicated attorney to join the Parental Defense Division's Preventive Legal Advocacy Project in Baltimore City, Maryland. - Contractual position with a salary range of $84, - $135,, depending on experience. - Expected to run through June 30, 2025, with possibility of extension. - Work with a multidisciplinary team to support families who come into contact with the Family Policing System/Child Welfare System. - Aim to prevent family separation and ensure children are not unnecessarily placed in the foster system. - Provide prepetition legal services to parents, informing them of their rights and responsibilities and advocating for them as they navigate their involvement with DSS. - Collaborate with social workers, criminal defense attorneys, parent advocates, and others as part of a multidisciplinary defense team. - Must have a Juris Doctorate degree and be an active member in good standing in the Maryland Bar or Bar of another state. - Must be able to work independently and have strong communication and advocacy skills. - Commitment to serving marginalized communities and dismantling racist systems. - Full-time employment with the Maryland Office of the Public Defender (MOPD), an affirmative action and equal opportunity employer. - Reasonable accommodations available for individuals with disabilities. - Background check required after conditional offer of employment is made. - Private practice of law is not allowed while in this position.
