A law firm in Chicago, IL, is seeking a skilled Corporate Health Plan Associate Attorney with extensive experience in advising healthcare clients on strategic transactions, regulatory matters, and operational issues related to health plans. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in health plan operations, managed care, regulatory compliance, and provider contracting within the healthcare industry.

Job Duties:

  • Provide legal counsel to healthcare clients on strategic transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, asset and equity acquisitions, venture capital investments, and joint ventures.
  • Advise on corporate governance matters, including entity formations, capital raises, and operational strategies for health plans.
  • Conduct legal research and analysis on state and federal laws relating to health plans, managed care, Medicare risk adjustment, STARS ratings, Medicaid matters, and behavioral health parity.
  • Draft and negotiate contracts, agreements, and other legal documents related to health plan operations and provider contracting.
  • Assist clients in regulatory compliance, including interpreting and applying laws and regulations affecting health plans.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external advisors to ensure comprehensive legal support and strategic advice for clients.
  • Communicate directly with clients to understand their needs, provide legal guidance, and manage expectations effectively.
  • Take ownership of projects, manage workflows, and meet deadlines while maintaining high-quality work.

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor (.) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to the State Bar of Illinois (active and in good standing).
  • 4-6 years of experience in health plan operations, regulation, managed care, and state and federal laws related to health plans.
  • In-depth knowledge of provider contracting issues, Medicare risk adjustment methodologies, STARS ratings, Medicaid regulations, and behavioral health parity.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret complex legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate legal concepts clearly and effectively.
  • Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Outstanding academic credentials and a demonstrated commitment to professional development.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience working with healthcare clients, including health insurers, managed care organizations, and healthcare providers.
  • Familiarity with healthcare transactional matters and corporate governance issues.
  • Previous experience in a reputable law firm environment or in-house legal department within the healthcare sector.

Education and Certifications:

  • Juris Doctor (.) from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to the State Bar of Illinois.
