Job Overview: A law firm in New York City is seeking a skilled and experienced Patent Agent to join their Intellectual Property (IP) team. The successful candidate will work closely with IP attorneys and other team members to draft and prosecute patent applications, conduct patentability assessments, and assist with patent litigation and enforcement projects. This role requires a strong mechanical, electrical, or chemical engineering background and a proven track record in patent transactional matters.
Key Responsibilities:
- Draft and prosecute patent applications before the . Patent & Trademark Office.
- Assist IP attorneys in representing clients in Patent Office proceedings, patent litigation, and general patent prosecution matters.
- Conduct patentability assessments and third-party patent searches.
- Perform patent diligence for mergers and acquisitions.
- Assist the IP team with patent clearance and enforcement projects as needed.
Requirements:
- Must have patent application drafting and prosecution experience.
- Well-developed patent database search skills.
- Substantive academic and professional knowledge in relevant fields.
- Ability to work well with others in a law firm environment.
- Excellent time management skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced setting.
Education:
- Undergraduate degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Chemical Engineering is required.
- An advanced technical degree is preferred.
Certifications:
- Must have a USPTO registration number.
Skills:
- 3+ years of intellectual property experience in patent transactional matters.
- Experience in prosecuting patent applications in mechanical and electrical engineering.
- Strong preference for candidates with additional experience in chemistry or biochemistry.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- High attention to detail and strong analytical abilities.
- Proficient in using patent database search tools and related software.
