Job Overview

A well-established law firm is seeking a Traditional Labor Law Associate for its Orange County, CA office. This position offers an opportunity to represent employers in traditional labor relations matters, as well as advise clients on federal and California workplace laws. The successful candidate will engage in a range of labor-related work, from handling unfair labor practice charges to negotiating collective bargaining agreements. This is a dynamic role suited for an attorney with experience in labor law and a desire to further develop in this specialized area.

Duties

  • Handle all aspects of Traditional Labor Relations, including:
    • Represent management in National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) elections and unfair labor practice charges.
    • Advise employers on union organizing, corporate campaigns, and neutrality agreements.
    • Negotiate and provide legal advice regarding collective bargaining agreements.
    • Manage grievance and arbitration proceedings.
    • Obtain injunctions related to mass picketing.
    • Provide advice on federal and California wage and hour laws, disability accommodations, and leave management.
    • Review and ensure compliance of employee handbooks, policies, and forms with federal and state laws.
    • Advise on compensation structures, including commission and bonus plans.
    • Conduct management training on labor relations and workplace issues including harassment, discrimination, and retaliation.
    • Perform due diligence related to workplace law issues in mergers and acquisitions.
    • Undertake additional tasks as assigned by senior attorneys.

Requirements

  • 4-6 years of experience in labor law litigation or providing legal counsel in a similar capacity.
  • Experience in traditional labor relations, including handling NLRB matters.
  • Strong knowledge of federal and California workplace laws, including wage and hour laws, disability accommodations, and leave management.
  • Prior experience in providing legal advice on collective bargaining and union-related matters is preferred.
  • CA Bar Admission is required.
  • Strong research, writing, and communication skills.
  • Ability to handle complex cases and manage multiple projects efficiently.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred, but not required.
  • Willingness to travel for business purposes as needed.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an ABA-accredited law school.

Certifications

  • Admission to the State Bar of California.

Skills

  • In-depth knowledge of traditional labor law practices, including union organizing, collective bargaining, and unfair labor practice charges.
  • Familiarity with federal and California workplace laws.
  • Strong legal research and writing abilities.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills.
  • Outstanding communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team-oriented environment.
