Volunteer Legal Intern - Criminal Division - Academic Year Hiring Organization: USAO Northern District of California Hiring Office: Criminal/Civil Division - San Francisco, Oakland, San Jose Job Title: Volunteer Legal Intern Experience: Completed one year of an ABA accredited law school Salary: Unpaid Location: San Francisco/Oakland/San Jose, CA - United States Application Deadline: Friday, November 15, 2024 About the Organization: - The USAO Northern District of California prosecutes all federal crimes in the region, including economic, cyber security, narcotics, and other federal crimes. - The Civil Division represents the United States and its departments and agencies in civil proceedings filed in federal court. - Approximately 130 AUSAs work across the Criminal and Civil Divisions in three offices: San Francisco, San Jose, or Oakland. Internship Details: - Interns can express interest in multiple divisions/offices but will be assigned to one. - The program is in-person and interns are required to be in the office. Remote work is not available. - Assignments may include legal research, writing pleadings, trial preparation, and completing appellate briefs. - Interns are encouraged to observe court proceedings and attend meetings with client agencies. - Minimum hours: 16 hours per week during school-year terms, 40 hours per week during summer. - Interns must complete a background check before beginning employment. - . citizenship is required. Qualifications: - Completed one year of an ABA accredited law school before beginning the internship. - Enrolled in an accredited law school at least half-time during school-year terms. - Must be a . citizen.
