A law firm in Chicago, IL, is seeking a seasoned IP Biotechnology Patent Agent to join its prestigious national Intellectual Property Department’s Chemical, Biotechnology, and Pharmaceutical Practice Group. The ideal candidate will have substantial experience in drafting and prosecuting patent applications, with a focus on biotechnology or similar technologies.

Duties:

  • Draft and prosecute domestic and international patent applications.
  • Prepare and provide patent opinions in biotechnology or related fields.
  • Conduct thorough legal research and analysis on complex technical issues.
  • Collaborate with attorneys and clients to devise and execute patent strategies.
  • Manage and advise on patent portfolios and patent-related issues.
  • Ensure adherence to patent laws and regulations.

Requirements:

  • 3+ years of experience in patent counseling, including preparation and prosecution.
  • Experience with biotechnology or similar technological areas.
  • PhD in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics, or a related field.
  • USPTO registration number.

Education:

  • PhD in Biological Sciences (Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics) or a related field.

Certifications:

  • USPTO registration number.

Skills:

  • Strong legal writing and research capabilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of biotechnology and patent law.
  • Proven ability to manage complex patent matters.
  • Outstanding academic background and prior law firm experience.
