Job Overview:

A prestigious law firm is seeking a Patent Agent to join its Patent Prosecution & Litigation team focusing on Electrical Engineering & Software. The role offers the opportunity to work on a wide variety of cutting-edge patent matters, with the flexibility of working from multiple office locations. The firm is looking for candidates with experience in intellectual property law, particularly in the fields of electrical engineering and software.

Location:

  • New York City, NY 

Duties:

  • Draft and prosecute patent applications related to electrical engineering, software, and wireless technologies
  • Support patent litigation efforts, including patent infringement analysis and litigation strategies
  • Conduct patentability assessments and freedom-to-operate analyses for clients
  • Manage clients' patent portfolios, ensuring protection and strategic growth
  • Collaborate with clients and engineering teams to align patents with business goals
  • Advise clients on intellectual property strategies, including risk management and compliance
  • Assist with patent dispute resolution and participate in patent enforcement actions

Requirements:

  • 2-6 years of experience in patent prosecution and litigation, specializing in electrical engineering, software, or a related technical field
  • Background in computer science, electrical engineering, or a similar technical discipline
  • Design engineering experience with a chip company is a plus
  • Knowledge of networking, software, and 3G/4G/5G wireless technologies is preferred
  • Admission to the USPTO is required for both Associate and Patent Agent candidates
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating with team members

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field

Certifications:

  • Membership in the USPTO is required

Skills:

  • Expertise in patent prosecution and litigation processes
  • Strong understanding of electrical engineering, software, and wireless technologies
  • Proficient in drafting patent applications and managing patent portfolios
  • Excellent research, writing, and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to analyze complex technical and legal issues
