The ideal candidate will have experience in patent prosecution related to biotechnology, particularly in areas such as biology, molecular biology, cellular biology, biochemistry, or related fields. The role involves assisting clients with patent filings, providing strategic counsel on intellectual property matters, and contributing to the overall success of the firm's patent prosecution practice.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare, draft, and file patent applications for clients in the biotechnology sector.
  • Conduct thorough patentability searches and provide legal advice based on research findings.
  • Assist in the prosecution of domestic and international patent applications.
  • Provide strategic advice regarding patent portfolios and intellectual property management.
  • Draft and respond to USPTO office actions and other related communications.
  • Conduct patent landscape analysis and competitive analysis for clients.
  • Collaborate with scientists, inventors, and clients to ensure accurate patent documentation and prosecution strategy.
  • Provide support in intellectual property due diligence for mergers, acquisitions, and licensing agreements.
  • Stay current on developments in biotechnology and patent law.
  • Participate in client meetings, conference calls, and legal presentations.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Experience:

    • Minimum of 2 years of experience in patent prosecution, particularly in the biotechnology sector.
  • Education:

    • . in Biology, Molecular Biology, Cellular Biology, Biochemistry, or related disciplines.
    • Must possess strong academic credentials.
  • Licensure/Certification:

    • Admission to a state bar (preferably Washington State or the ability to waive in).

  • Strong written and oral communication skills, particularly in explaining technical subject matter to non-experts.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
