Mid-Level Patent Prosecution Associate Attorney

Job Overview:
A prestigious law firm in Charlotte, NC, is looking for an experienced Patent Prosecution Associate Attorney to join its highly regarded Patent Prosecution & Litigation Practice Group. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in patent application drafting and technical expertise in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or a related field. Experience with other intellectual property matters will be considered a plus. The firm is committed to attracting, developing, and retaining a diverse team of professionals.

Duties:

  • Draft and prosecute patent applications for clients in diverse industries
  • Provide strategic guidance on intellectual property matters, including patent portfolio development and maintenance
  • Conduct patentability, freedom-to-operate, and infringement analyses
  • Collaborate with clients to assess and mitigate patent risks
  • Prepare and file responses to office actions and other communications with the USPTO
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of patent law and industry trends
  • Work closely with colleagues in a dynamic, team-oriented environment
  • Manage a docket of patent prosecution matters and ensure timely filings
  • Represent clients before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)

Requirements:

  • 3-6 years of experience in patent prosecution, with a focus on application drafting
  • Registered with the USPTO
  • Barred in North Carolina
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team
  • Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities

Education:

  • A degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field

Certifications:

  • Must be registered with the USPTO
  • Active State Bar membership in North Carolina

Skills:

  • In-depth knowledge of patent prosecution procedures
  • Ability to draft patent applications and responses to office actions
  • Strong communication and client-facing skills
  • Proficiency in patent search tools and legal databases
  • Ability to manage complex legal matters and interact with high-level clients
  • Familiarity with other intellectual property practices is a plus
