A law firm seeks a junior to mid-level litigation associate to join its Financial Services Litigation Practice Group in Kansas City. This is a fantastic opportunity for an attorney with a strong litigation background and an interest in financial services law to work on a variety of high-stakes matters. The ideal candidate will have experience in commercial real estate, distressed loans, debt instruments, or creditor and lender liability, and will contribute to a growing and collaborative practice.

Duties:

  • Manage litigation matters related to financial services, including commercial real estate, distressed loans, and creditor liability.
  • Draft and prepare key legal documents, including complaints, briefs, pretrial motions, discovery requests, and legal memoranda.
  • Conduct legal research and analysis on complex financial services issues.
  • Represent clients in court hearings, depositions, and other proceedings as needed.
  • Collaborate with senior attorneys and clients to develop strategies and case plans.
  • Assist in negotiating settlements and resolving disputes in financial services litigation matters.
  • Build client relationships through direct communication and active participation in case management.

Requirements:

  • At least 3 years of litigation experience, particularly in commercial real estate, distressed loans, debt and security instruments, or creditor/lender liability.
  • Strong legal writing experience, including drafting briefs, complaints, motions, and discovery materials.
  • Excellent research and analytical skills, with the ability to understand complex financial and legal concepts.
  • Ability to handle multiple cases simultaneously while managing deadlines and client expectations.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with a focus on clarity and precision.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Active bar membership in Missouri.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Active Missouri bar admission required.

  • Expertise in financial services litigation and related practice areas such as creditor and lender liability.
  • Strong legal writing, research, and analytical abilities.
