Job Overview:
A leading law firm is seeking a skilled Energy Regulatory Associate with 3-4 years of experience in the energy or utility sector. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in transactional or litigation work, particularly involving administrative litigation and counseling before federal agencies such as the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) or state agencies. This position involves prosecuting regulatory matters, defending audit and enforcement actions, negotiating agreements for oil and gas infrastructure, and providing regulatory compliance counseling for mergers and acquisitions. The associate will work with natural gas, liquid pipeline, electric transmission providers, and energy market participants.

Duties:

  • Prosecute administrative litigation and regulatory approvals
  • Defend clients in audit and enforcement actions before federal and state agencies
  • Represent natural gas and liquid pipeline clients, electric transmission providers, and energy market participants before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC)
  • Negotiate agreements for the use of oil and gas infrastructure, including transportation, gathering, and processing agreements
  • Provide regulatory compliance counseling and support for mergers and acquisitions
  • Assist clients in navigating regulatory frameworks within the energy and utility sectors

Requirements:

  • 3-4 years of experience in transactional or litigation work within the energy or utility sector
  • Experience with administrative litigation and counseling before federal agencies, particularly FERC or state agencies
  • Strong understanding of the regulatory frameworks governing the energy sector
  • Experience in prosecuting and defending regulatory matters for natural gas, liquid pipeline, and electric transmission clients
  • Proven ability to negotiate infrastructure-related agreements and provide regulatory compliance support
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (.) from an accredited law school

Certifications:

  • Licensed to practice law in the relevant jurisdiction

Skills:

  • Expertise in energy regulatory matters, particularly involving FERC and state agencies
  • Strong negotiation and drafting skills related to oil and gas infrastructure agreements
