The role is primarily remote, with occasional in-office work required.

Duties

  • Initiate and manage new claims for the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund
  • Gather, analyze, and review relevant information for personal injury and wrongful death claims
  • Investigate case details and facts, collaborating with clients, witnesses, and external entities
  • Prepare necessary legal documents and correspondence for client enrollment in the World Trade Center Health Program and VCF claims submission
  • Represent clients during appeal hearings before the VCF, both in-person and virtually
  • Supervise and guide paralegal claim managers in strategy, document collection, and claim analysis

Requirements

  • Admission to practice law in New York, or pending admission
  • Demonstrated empathy and strong client service skills
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and work independently with meticulous attention to detail
  • Experience working with a case management system and documenting activity
  • Strong organizational, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Fluency in Spanish or Chinese (Mandarin and/or Cantonese) is a plus, but not required

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school

Certifications

  • Licensed to practice law in the state of New York, or pending admission

Skills

  • Proficient in legal research, drafting, and client communication
  • Ability to manage multiple cases and maintain attention to detail
  • Strong organizational and case management skills
  • Fluency in additional languages such as Spanish or Chinese is preferred, but not mandatory
