Job Overview:

A prestigious law firm is seeking an experienced Patent Agent to join its Patent Prosecution & Litigation Practice Group, focusing on Electrical Engineering & Software. This role provides an excellent opportunity to work with cutting-edge technologies in the field of intellectual property law, including patent prosecution and litigation, while collaborating with a team of experts. Candidates will have the chance to work with a diverse set of clients in the technology and telecommunications sectors.

Location:

  • Los Angeles, CA 

Duties:

  • Draft and prosecute patent applications in electrical engineering, software, and wireless technologies
  • Provide legal support in patent litigation, including infringement analysis and litigation strategies
  • Conduct patentability assessments and manage client patent portfolios
  • Advise clients on intellectual property strategy, risk management, and IP compliance
  • Assist with patent dispute resolution and enforcement
  • Collaborate with technical teams to align patent strategies with business goals
  • Manage client relationships and deliver clear legal advice

Requirements:

  • 2-6 years of experience in patent prosecution and litigation, especially in electrical engineering, software, or related technologies
  • Background in computer science, electrical engineering, or a similar technical field
  • Design engineering experience with a chip company is a plus
  • Experience or preference for knowledge in networking, software, 3G/4G/5G wireless technologies
  • USPTO admission is required for both Associate and Patent Agent candidates
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong organizational and analytical abilities

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a similar technical field

Certifications:

  • Membership in the USPTO is required for all candidates

Skills:

  • Expertise in patent prosecution, patent litigation, and IP strategy
  • Solid knowledge in electrical engineering, software, and wireless technologies
  • Strong patent application drafting skills
  • Ability to manage patent portfolios and conduct patentability analyses
  • Proficiency in analyzing complex legal and technical issues
  • Strong research, writing, and verbal communication skills
  • Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple matters simultaneously
