Orange County Patent Agent or Patent Technical Specialist - Law Firm
K&L Gates is seeking a Patent Agent or Patent Technical Specialist to support lawyers with patent prosecution matters. This is an exciting opportunity for a smart, imaginative, and hard-working individual to join our dynamic team in Orange County.
Position Summary:
The Patent Agent or Technical Specialist will be responsible for analyzing invention disclosures, performing patent searches, drafting patent applications, preparing office action responses, and managing one or more patent portfolios. They will also have the opportunity to work closely with lawyers on patent litigation, due diligence, and other legal activities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Draft patent applications and prosecute them before the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)
- Manage patent portfolios and docket under the supervision of lawyers
- Communicate with clients regarding due dates, invention disclosures, and other pertinent projects
- Analyze scientific or technical documents, including previously published patent documents
- Draft detailed descriptions of inventions in precise legal terms
- Prepare information disclosure statements, declarations, and other patent prosecution related materials
- Conduct interviews with examiners at the USPTO
- Keep up to date with legal developments in the intellectual property field
- Undertake continuing education to stay current on patent prosecution issues and trends
Experience and Skills Required:
- 2-4 years of experience as a Technical Specialist or Patent Agent
- Admission to practice before the . Patent and Trademark Office is required
- Fluent Korean speaker with professional working experience in Korea preferred
- Bachelor's degree and advanced degree in life sciences
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
- Highly organized and responsive, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
- Excellent writing and analytical skills
