One of the roles for attorneys to get involved in is general counsel. Robert Bauer is a partner at Perkins Coie. He is also serving as general counsel for Senator Barack Obama's campaign, and as general counsel, he deals with all of the legal issues that come up concerning Obama's campaign, quite a big job. Some specific duties associated with the job of general counsel include negotiating contracts, chartering aircraft, leasing land and buildings, etc.
In addition to general counsel, presidential campaigns need volunteers to help with the everyday legal issues that arise along the campaign trail. Currently, Bauer is looking to put together a group of volunteers who are passionate about Obama's campaign to help with some of the legal issues.
Fund-raisers are also an important component of presidential campaigns. Jeh Johnson, who works at Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison, and John Roos, who works at Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati

"I'm in the middle of the Silicon Valley, where all the candidates come seeking not only guidance with respect to policy issues, but also financing for their campaigns," Roos told The National Law Journal. "Anything I can do to help Barack Obama raise money from the Silicon Valley and beyond, I'm willing to do because he's an exciting candidate."
