Graduate employment
There are more misconceptions about graduate employment than any other aspect of higher education. It is generally firmly believed that a degree course must always be a preparation for a certain career e.g. Law for the legal profession, English for journalism, French for translating and interpreting and teaching courses for teaching.
Nothing could be further from the truth! A four year degree course of teacher training for example can certainly lead to a satisfying career in the classroom, but it is also an excellent preparation for any job dealing with people, and as the following tables show, some graduates go into business, administration and social work from a range of degree subjects.
A degree or diploma course therefore should be seen as an extension to your education. In some cases it will prepare you for a specific career, but it will also open many other doors.
