Early Years
Morgan was born and raised in Houston, Texas, with her mother, father, and older sister. As a teenager, Morgan worked in her parent's retail business and at the local grocery store as a checker. These first jobs provided Morgan with a foundation that established a strong work ethic. For college, Morgan moved to Indiana where she received her BS in International Relations with a Minor in Russian. After graduating from college, Morgan decided to pursue her JD at the University of Texas Law School. While attending law school, Morgan received a number of scholarships, honors, and served as the Student Bar Association President. Morgan practiced as an attorney for a number of years before she transitioned into legal recruiting.
Legal Recruiting
Morgan worked for a number of years as a successful attorney before she transitioned into legal recruitment . After law school, Morgan moved to New York and practiced with Cleary, Gottlieb, Steen & Hamilton. Morgan, a big hearted Texas native, confesses that living in New York was an amazing experience. When asked about her favorite New York moment, she responded: “the whole experience of living in New York was amazing. I embraced the total picture.” After 9-11, Morgan and her family moved back home to Texas and worked for a number of years in corporate law for Akin Gump and King & Spalding before transitioning into legal recruitment. After working in legal recruitment for two years, Morgan founded Warren Recruiting. Even before Morgan transitioned into legal recruitment full-time, she always did a number of recruiting activities in her prior firms and for her school. Although Morgan was looking for something different, she wanted to stay connected to the legal community. In light of Morgan's experience as an attorney, her experience moving to different cities, and her ability to work hard while forging quality relationships, legal recruitment was a perfect fit.
Morgan admits working in a family company creates a few challenges; however, the dynamic provides a better work product. Sometimes Morgan struggles to leave work in the office because her most trusted confidant and sounding board is always available at home. Nonetheless, this struggle is a benefit in disguise because Morgan and David provide outstanding customer service because they are always available for clients and constantly working together to grow and learn. Additionally, together they provide one another with a great support system, which has paved their way to success.
If you are just starting out as a legal recruiter, Morgan advises that you meet as many people as possible, be open, and learn from people. Although a new recruiter may face obstacles, one should consider taking a page out of Morgan's book. When life provides a new challenge, Morgan tackles the challenge with diligence, determination, and a sense of humor. She remains positive and always makes the best out of the situation. At the end of the day, Morgan remembers that life is a marathon not a sprint.
For women struggling to balance work and family, Morgan is a great role model. She suggests being open to help. At the end of the day, Morgan had to accept the fact that she couldn't do everything. However, Morgan always embraces the decision to be a working mother. Morgan runs a successful recruitment firm, and she is a blessed mother of two five year old twin sons. At the end of the day, she is fulfilled and efficient as a mother and as an entrepreneur.
During the legal recession of 2009, Morgan noticed there was a reduction in hiring activity . Certainly, the clients slowed hiring, but the clients are hiring now. Morgan confesses she is busy and hiring for her clients. Morgan does not see a lasting impact on legal recruitment, but she does see a lasting impact on firm structure and the economics of the firms. For example, clients are requiring alternative fee schedules.
Morgan is a happy and a joyous person, who is attracted to other grateful people. If Morgan could only tell her sons one thing, she would tell them to surround themselves with people they love, do something they enjoy, and be happy. Morgan derives her happiness from friends, family, her successes, helping people, traveling, and great food.
Professionally, Morgan finds working as a recruiter gratifying because she meets people with varying backgrounds, and she gets to help people. Morgan finds the reward of making a successful match quite motivating because the bulk of candidates and clients will spend more time working than any other activity, and Warren Recruiting plays an integral role in finding the right environment. She finds helping lawyers find a better fit for their practice while ensuring law firms and corporations find quality attorneys to meet their legal demands gratifying all around. Morgan enjoys the personal aspects of the process and this rewarding human contact and client satisfaction keeps her motivated.
Interests
Personally, Morgan loves to travel, and she has learned a lot from her travels. Morgan believes traveling exposes a traveler to the fact that there are a number of different walks of life. With each adventure, Morgan is reminded of how lucky she is to be living in the U.S. Morgan and David have traveled to Europe, Thailand, Cambodia, and all over the U.S. Morgan appreciates being able to take her sons to new places, hiking together, and connecting with her family.
When Morgan is not running her own business or taking care of her family, she is cooking, hiking, gardening, or practicing yoga. Morgan admits there are two things she could not live without, her family and her dogs.
