DiPasquale has long recognized the importance of leadership skills. Prior to entering law school, he worked as a liability examiner at a high-profile insurance company. As a liability examiner, he went beyond his basic duties and pursued opportunities to demonstrate his leadership skills. He mentored new associates, coached co-workers, and organized presentations.
At Moritz College of Law, he learned about the Program on Law and Leadership and saw it as the perfect opportunity to expand his leadership skills and learn methods of reaching the “larger community.” According to DiPasquale, the program and its offerings have inspired him in a number of ways.
He was particularly impressed by a conversation series event with Professor Nancy Rogers, who previously served as Ohio Attorney General. He noted her focus on “the importance of having effective and constructive communication with employees at all levels.” According to DiPasquale, Rogers was able to motivate everyone in the office by addressing concerns at all levels, particularly issues that impacted job satisfaction. From the luncheon, DiPasquale learned the importance of tending to the needs of the organization as a whole, rather than attempting to merely cater to those in positions of authority. He called the event “an extremely valuable experience,” noting that “it showed that a leader need not, and often should not, take a hardline approach to decision making.”
