At 45, Obama is the youngest member of the 2008 Democratic presidential race and the least experienced. However, he is determined not to let his inexperience dampen his spirit or his campaign trail, and to illustrate this, he started his campaign off with some pretty bold statements.
"Let us transform this nation," he said in his campaign kick off speech.
In fact, he is even playing up his inexperience as something that makes him more fit for the White House, not less.
"I know I haven't spent a lot of time learning the ways of Washington. But I've been there long enough to know that the ways of Washington must change," he said.
Obama has said that he wants to improve education, improve health care, put an end to poverty, and insure that all U.S. employees get the benefits they deserve. He has also been very clear about the fact that he does not support the war in Iraq.
"It's time to admit that no amount of American lives can resolve the political disagreement that lies at the heart of someone else's civil war," he said.
"Each and every time, a new generation has risen up and done what's needed to be done," he said. "Today we are called once more—and it is time for our generation to answer that call."
